Transforming e-scooter parking in Berlin with BVG

BVG’s Jelbi team is using Vianova’s platform to plan 150 parking zones and parking-order mobility hubs across the capital to link public transport and shared mobility better. The platform enabled them to access long-term historical analysis of e-scooter parking, identify locations for new mobility hubs, and monitor the performance of existing hubs. For example which hubs have been the most popular in the past few months, or how occupation compares during summer to winter.

Learn how we achieved these results together:

Our insights enabled informed choices, supporting the enhancement of current infrastructure and strategic development of new public facilities. BVG implemented 150 new mobility hubs and can easily provide information about their usage to the public. In the city center, the mandatory parking zones multiplied the number of scooters parked in hubs by five with no decrease in demand. We facilitated consistent reporting for different operators by harmonizing their utilization of MDS data. BVG now understands the share of multimodal trips, broken down by area and neighbourhood. They can now easily compare the performance of mandatory mobility hub clusters across the different regions of Berlin.

The only way to truly unlock the power and potential of shared services is to have greater insight over how those services are being used. The adoption of such services in Berlin in recent years is a testament to both BVG’s innovative approach to transportation, as well as the fleet operators it has partnered with. Our insights at Vianova will help build on this success; from keeping the streets safer and tidier for all, to better regulation and stronger transport links designed to bring the city and its residents closer together.
